February 2003 Awards Banquet
- Crankmasters had a great turnout for the annual awards celebration. Special guests Roy and Almeda from Eurotech Cycle presented medals to the category champions (photos courtesy of Shirley Walker).

May 10, 2003 ITT - It was a brisk day, but 18 riders endured the changing winds and cattle truck traffic to the nearby meat
packing plant. Yours truly tried to intimidate John Bryan with his full-on aero gear... but it didn’t work.

May 11, 2003 Team Criterium - Weather conditions were perfect... so where the heck was everybody? Oh yeah, something
about Mother’s Day. Ten riders on 3 teams enjoyed sun, almost no wind (unheard of in NW Calgary) and apres-race treats from M&M Meat Shops.

June 14, 2003 Canmore ABA ITT #1 - The first race in the Alberta Bicycle Association 40 km time trial series was held in
Canmore, with the course running east of Canmore to Seebe. The race was made interesting at the turnaround point when riders
were greeted with a stiff headwind on the 20 km back to Canmore. There were six Crankmasters members participating in the race - results are posted on the Rundle Mountain Cycling Club website.

June 29, 2003 Madden 2-up TTT - Six and a half teams participated in the 2-man 40 km Madden Team Time Trial under
warm sunny skies and a slight breeze.

July 13, 2003 Stampede Road Race - The Stampede Classic had a excellent turnout with reasonable weather conditions.
Yours truly ran out of steam during lap 4, but the rest of the participants seemed to have no trouble getting around the rather gruelling circuit.

August 10, 2003 Darwell ITT Race
- Great turnout and results from the Crankmasters squad in Darwell. Weather conditions were near perfect and the road was flat with lots of interesting curves.
August 17, 2003 Highwood Pass Club Ride
- A surprising number of riders endured the forest fire smoke to attend the rather grueling 100 km ride to Highwood Pass. Must have been the promise of apres-ride delicious M&M hamburgers prepared by Randy and the delectable Les Truffes chocolate courtesy of Ralph for dessert. Mmmm...
Aside from the smoke, the weather conditions were pleasant with rare warm and calm weather at the top of the pass.
August 31, 2003
- Great club participation in the final ABA ITT race series in Red Deer. Danny Cronin earned second place
in Masters E, Jim Oldham (club president extraordinaire) got first place in Masters D and Lev Krivitsky snagged third place in
Masters C. And your webmaster in Masters A? Let’s just say he was “off the pace”. Great job guys!

September 7, 2003
- Nearly 60 Masters riders participated in the sweltering 30 C heat for the Crankmasters Provincial
Masters Road Race in Okotoks. Let me tell you, 3 water bottles was not enough. The race was a awesome success with great
rider and volunteer participation from the club. We’ll get ‘em next year guys! Pictures courtesy of Charles Irwin.

September 21, 2003
- Sunday was as close to perfect as it gets in Calgary for racing. Not freezing cold and no hurricane force
winds. As a result there were some very fast times posted for the 2003 Truth Be Told Finale 20 km ITT. All the repeat riders
from the spring race showed marked improvement in their times. Dennis Bland dropped his time by 5 minutes while winning
the Jet Jackson Award for the fastest time of the day at 28:25 followed by Jet Junior Mike Prance at 28:42. Third overall went
to Lev Krivitsky at 30:01 followed by Howard Yuan at 4th with 30:11 and "sweet young Thing" John Bryan at 31:01 for 5th
place. Needless to say Dennis was the fastest Cat A rider and Howard was in 2nd place. Mike was the fastest Cat B rider
followed by followed by Ian Beales at 31:48 for 2nd place. Lev was the fast Cat C rider followed by Steve Sampson at 32:30
for 2nd place. John Bryan was the fastest Cat D rider with yours truly coming 2nd with a time that could have been clocked
using a calendar. Danny Cronin took the Cat E honours with a very good 35:41. Fastest woman of the day was Karen Cameron
in 35:43 followed by Maureen Duffy at 38:34. Many thanks to the three volunteers that made this race possible. Ellen Yuan on
the stopwatch and registration, Shirley Bland as recorder and photographer and Jane Maduke playing out in the traffic at the
turning end as Marshall. It was good to see many new faces in the 21 riders that participated.
