January 1, 2006 - New Years Day Ride (Commentary by Jim Oldham):
It wasn’t exactly your typical winter weather but the 31 riders at this year’s New Years Day ride will certainly take it any time. Many were commenting that it was
warmer than days like this last year when it should have been spring or summer. So what were the weather conditions like? The temperature was 7-9 degrees C on the plus side and the wind gusted to 10 kph if you
can believe it. No gale force Chinook winds. In past years we might have gotten part way around the park but nobody stopped at two laps this year. All was recorded for posterity by Shirley Walker with her
new camera from Santa.
Now that the precedent has been set we can look for good things in the coming season. As the old tune “Home on the Range” goes: “never a discouraging
word”. Let’s hope that we don’t have to pay for this fine weather later on.
